Parents and teachers
This page is for the person who manages an Oivallin account for others: a parent or guardian with one or more children, and a teacher or tutor who uses Oivallin with a group. The pupil doesn't need to register or remember a password.
An account for a family or a group
One person creates the account and manages it: adds the members, follows their studying and pays the bill. You can name the account, for example The Smith family or Maths group, and it has up to 15 seats. Creating the account needs a Google or Microsoft account. The founder of a group also gets a membership of their own, so they can use the helper themselves.
Managing the account is free. You only pay for the members who use the helper, and every new member starts with a free 14-day trial. Pricing and what needs a membership
Adding members
- You add a member with a name and an age group and send them their own link. The link identifies them, so no password is needed. A first name is enough.
- The grade or age group decides how the helper talks and the level of the tasks: a pre-schooler is spoken to differently from an upper secondary student. Only you can change the grade of a pupil in basic education; others can change their level themselves.
- If a child has already started a trial with their own Google or Microsoft account, you can link them to your account: their conversations, stars and cards are kept.
- If a parental control on the child's phone blocks account creation (the app says the verification could not be loaded), the easiest way is to create the account yourself and send the child a link. Alternatively you can allow the address
challenges.cloudflare.comin the phone's settings.
Tasks and goals
- An exam from the exam notice. Take a photo of the exam notice, for example from Wilma. Oivallin reads the subject, the exam date and the chapters from it, and you check them before giving the task. The pupil gets an exam task that proceeds one chapter at a time and ends with a revision test.
- Material as a task. You can give a member a PDF as a task or as study material, for example a worksheet or a chapter to read.
- Goals. You set star goals, and the pupil sees how they are progressing. Oivallin doesn't do the homework for the pupil; it helps them work out the answer themselves.
- Messages. You can limit a member's daily messages if you like.
Progress and privacy
You see every member's stars, progress and exam task results. The account manager can always see the conversations of a pupil in basic education (grades 1–9). Anyone else, for example an upper secondary or an adult student, can block the reading of their conversations in their own settings; you then still see the number of messages and the progress, but not the conversations. Read more in the app's privacy policy and FAQ.
For teachers and tutors
A teacher or tutor can create a group for adult students, for example in adult basic education, on a language course or at a university, and give each of them their own link. For a pupil in basic education, the account is created by a parent or guardian, who accepts the terms of use on the child's behalf. The teacher can then advise the parents and, for example, hand out the exam notice from which the parent makes the exam task.
Payment
The account manager doesn't pay for themselves unless they use the helper themselves. A member's membership is paid one month at a time with Vipps MobilePay, as a one-off or a recurring payment. Flashcards and reviewing work for everyone without a membership. Pricing
The trial is free, and no payment details are needed.
